Terms of Use
In short
- MediNect connects you with doctors for online, non-emergency care.
- In an emergency, call 10177 or 112. Do not use MediNect.
- The doctor decides what care is right for you. They may refuse to prescribe or issue a sick note if it is not clinically appropriate.
- You must give true information and keep your password private.
- Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act stay in place.
1. About these terms
These terms cover the MediNect website and the MediNect patient portal (together, “the service”). They are the Patient Terms and the Terms of Website Use in one document. When you register and tick the agreement box, or when you use the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Please also read our Website Privacy Policy and Patient Privacy Notice.
2. Who we are
MediNect HealthCare is run by [registered company name], registration number [registration number], of [registered physical address]. In these pages, “MediNect”, “we” and “us” mean that company.

Consultations are done by doctors registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Each doctor is responsible for their own clinical decisions.
3. What the service does
- Online consultations with a doctor, which you request in the patient portal.
- Online sick notes and prescriptions, where the doctor decides they are appropriate.
- Referral to specialist care where the doctor thinks you need it.
When you request a consultation, that is a request only. It is confirmed when we confirm it in your portal.
4. Not for emergencies
If you or someone else is in danger, call 10177 or 112, or go to the nearest emergency room.
This includes difficulty breathing, chest pain, heavy bleeding, signs of a stroke, a serious injury or thoughts of harming yourself. For mental health support you can also call the SADAG helpline on 0800 567 567.
MediNect is not an emergency service and cannot respond in time to urgent situations.
5. Your consultation
- The doctor uses their own professional judgement. They may give advice, prescribe, issue a sick note, refer you, or tell you that you need to be seen in person.
- An online consultation has limits because the doctor cannot examine you physically. The doctor may stop the consultation and refer you if they think it is unsafe to continue online.
- A doctor will not issue a prescription or sick note just because you ask for one. A sick note is only for an illness the doctor has assessed, and will not be backdated beyond what the doctor’s findings support.
- Some medicines cannot be prescribed online.
- Please follow the doctor’s advice. If your symptoms get worse, get care in person straight away.
6. Who can use the service
You must be 18 or older to register. If you are a parent or legal guardian asking for care for a child, contact us first so we can handle the consent properly.
7. Your account
- Give us accurate and current details, and keep them up to date.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- One account per person. Do not use another person’s account.
We may suspend an account if we believe the details are false or the service is being misused.
8. The information you give us
The doctor relies on what you tell them, including your symptoms, medical history, medicines and allergies. If it is wrong or incomplete, the advice may not be safe for you. Please be honest and complete.
9. Fees, medical aid and cancellations
- The fee for a service is shown in rand before you confirm your request. At the time of writing, an online GP consultation is R500. Specialist and other services are priced separately.
- If you give us medical aid details, we do not promise that your scheme will pay. Please check your benefits. You are responsible for any amount your scheme does not pay.
- You can cancel a consultation in your portal while it is still a request. Once it is confirmed, please tell us as soon as you can. [Cancellation, no-show and refund rules to be confirmed]
10. Using the website and portal
Please do not:
- use the service for anything unlawful, or give false details;
- pretend to be someone else;
- try to see anyone else’s records, or to break into or disrupt our systems;
- copy or collect content from the site with automated tools;
- upload anything harmful, abusive or that you do not have the right to share.
11. Information on the website
The general information on our website is not medical advice and does not replace a consultation. We try to keep it correct, but it may contain mistakes or go out of date. The service may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance. The website may link to other sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for them.
12. Our content
The MediNect name, logo, text, design and software belong to us or our licensors. You may use the service for your own personal use. You may not copy, sell or reuse our content without our written permission.
13. Your privacy
We handle your personal information as set out in the Website Privacy Policy and the Patient Privacy Notice.
14. Our responsibility
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other law, or limits our responsibility where the law does not allow it to be limited. Doctors remain responsible for their professional care.
Subject to that, we are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, for loss caused by events outside our control (such as power or internet failures), or for loss caused by incorrect information you gave us.
15. Ending your use of the service
You can stop using the service at any time. To close your account, contact us. We keep health records for the period the law requires, even after an account is closed (see the Patient Privacy Notice).
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is important, we will tell you by email or in your portal. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the updated terms.
17. Law and complaints
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. If you are unhappy with anything, please contact us first so we can try to fix it. You may also contact the National Consumer Commission about a consumer complaint, or the HPCSA about a doctor’s professional conduct.
